Instructor: Duke

Course objectives:
Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:

  • Define force, moment and couple, and calculate components of forces.
  • Draw free-body diagrams, and determine support forces using the equations of equilibrium.
  • Determine equivalent force systems.
  • Find centroids.
  • Calculate stresses, strains, and deformations of bars that are axially loaded or subjected to bending loads.
  • Determine principal stresses for bars subjected to combined loading.

Corequisites:
This course requires a basic knowledge of multivariable calculus and vector geometry (MATH 2224).
