Course objectives:
Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:
- Define force, moment and couple, and calculate components of forces.Draw free-body diagrams, and determine support forces using the equations of equilibrium.Determine equivalent force systems.Find centroids.Calculate stresses, strains, and deformations of bars that are axially loaded or subjected to bending loads.Determine principal stresses for bars subjected to combined loading.
Corequisites:
This course requires a basic knowledge of multivariable calculus and vector geometry (MATH 2224).
