Few Steps in Mechanical Testing of Medial Collateral Ligaments

The tibia-ligament-femur complex is carefully dissected from a rat and framed to establish a specific orientation of the ligament. The complex is clamped in a tensile testing device for stress measurements and is pigmented for strain measurements performed by using a high speed video camera. Mechanical properties of the ligaments are inferred from the analysis of the collected stress-strain data.
