Roger Chang
BLACKSBURG, Va., April 30, 2012 – Dr. Roger Chang has been awarded a 2012 College of Engineering Certificate of Teaching Excellence for his teaching for the 2010-2011 Academic Year.
After graduating with both master’s and doctoral degrees from ESM, Dr. Chang decided to concentrate his efforts on teaching. He stated, “I had to choose between what I wanted to do and needed to do. I decided to go with the teaching route.”
Student enthusiasm for Dr. Chang’s teaching has earned him the Sporn Award for teaching twice, as well as being voted second best teacher at Virginia Tech last year by students.
Testimonials from students include: “[He is] a teacher who exhibits an unsurpassed respect and genuine concern for his students. He works tirelessly to help students not only succeed, but understand what they are doing.” “A lot of time we get into hard math problems or complex derivations, and often we forget the simple, basic principles that make test reviews, homework or projects easier and [Dr. Chang] will remind us to use those principles when he sees we are stuck.” “He could make a business major understand Deforms.”
ESM takes pride in noting that our department has produced this outstanding alumnus who has elected to pursue the path of academic teaching. We are fortunate to have him as part of our instructional team.
