Staff Employee of the Week - Lisa Smith
by HR Staff
During Ms. Smith's tenure with the department, she has always been at the forefront to offer creative solutions, volunteer for special projects, or to rouse other employees to participation.
Illustrating Ms. Smith's dedication - in June 2008, she assumed the duties of "Acting" Graduate Enrollment Specialist during an extremely busy time of year for the Graduate Program. With no notice, Ms. Smith quickly learned about many facets of that position. She worked with the Director of Graduate Studies, networked with other graduate program assistants for mentoring, and took training at the Graduate School.
Even with increased duties, Ms. Smith still helped other faculty, students, or staff with administrative tasks. She received the ESM Department Head's Award in 2003 and 2008. She also served as the College of Engineering's CASE representative (2001 -2004), the ESM Department CASE representative (2001-2002) and the CASE Vice President (2003-2004).
After 4/16, Ms. Smith's encouragement was there, as she showed a brave countenance yet maintained her compassionate nature. She was part of the glue that helped our department stay intact during such stressful times.
Ms. Smith's positive attitude and dedication to the department and its students make her a model for others.
