CPSVP and ESM Collaborate on Rotating Art Exhibit

by Amy Splitt and Anne-Marie Bracken

Late Summer by Susan Hensley

The Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention (CPSVP) and the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics (ESM) are pleased to present the first in an ongoing series of art exhibits to be displayed in the second floor west wing hallway of Norris Hall.

The first artist to be featured is Susan Hensley, a local resident and member of the Blacksburg Regional Art Association (BRAA). According to her bio, Ms. Hensley’s abstract watercolors and collages “encourage participation by the viewer in what s/he perceives in the image rather than using a realistic style.” The soft colors she chose for this exhibit are intended to inspire feelings of peace and joy. An example of Ms. Henley’s artwork can be viewed on this page, and is titled “Late Summer.”

Ms. Hensley’s exhibit will run from October 1st through December 18th with an Opening Reception on Friday, October 9th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in 205 Norris Hall on the Virginia Tech campus.

Stay tuned for the next segment of the rotating show which will begin after classes resume in January of 2010. You may obtain more information about CVSVP and ESM by accessing their websites: www.cpsvp.vt.edu and www.esm.vt.edu.
