Sandie Griffin receives the ESM Department Head's Award

The ESM Department Head's Award Committee has made its recommendation to Department Head Ishwar Puri, and he has concurred with the recommendation. So the Committee hereby announces that the 2009 recipient of the award is Sandie Griffin.

A full citation has been submitted to the Department Head, but a few excerpts are in order here. Ms. Griffin, in her roll as undergraduate enrollment specialist, works with numerous individuals both within and outside the Department in a manner that keeps the morale of all individuals very high. She is highly knowledgeable of undergraduate rules and procedures, and conveys this information to others in a clear and effective manner. She was instrumental in the preparation of key documents associated with the most recent and highly successsful ABET review. Her record keeping is outstanding.

Very noteworthy is her recent agreement to take on the additional and significant duty of advising all the ESM undergraduate students. This will mean higher consistency of advice for our students as well as more efficient use of Departmental resources. She has also recently agreed to sit with the ESM Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, recording minutes and helping as needed. Finally, she is in pursuit of an advanced degree which will help her serve this Department.

There will be a brief ceremony to honor Sandie at a time to be announced as soon as some individual schedules can be worked out. All faculty and staff will be invited.

The Department Head's Award Committee wishes to stress that there are numerous staff members who serve the Department in an exemplary fashion. Indeed, the quality of the staff is one of the primary factors that makes this Department vibrant. Any one of several strong individuals might easily have received this award in 2009.
