The Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics (ESM) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. The ideal candidate is expected to conduct innovative research in one or more fields of experimental mechanics including dynamics, solid mechanics or fluid mechanics. Most importantly, ESM faculty members are expected to have a broad scholarly interest in engineering with a special emphasis on the fundamental mechanics.
A doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant area of science or engineering is required. Interest in developing or interfacing experimental mechanics measurements and analysis procedures within the domain of energy, (e.g., fuel cells, renewable energy, energy conversion, clean energy, or energy storage) or biology (e.g., cellular mechanics,soft tissue mechanics, macromolecular biology, biodynamics, or biofluids) is an asset. Senior applicants must have a distinguished scholarly record with international visibility. Prior experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team is desirable, since such research is highly valued in ESM.
