Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics

Faculty Positions Posting Number 090549

The Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics (ESM) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for two tenure-track faculty positions. Candidates are expected to conduct innovative research in one or more areas of the mechanical sciences. ESM faculty members are expected to have a broad scholarly interest in engineering with a special emphasis on the fundamentals of mechanics. Faculty members will also be required to teach undergraduate and graduate coursework. This position will be located on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, VA. Although the appointments are expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor, senior applicants who have a distinguished scholarly record with international visibility may be considered. Prior experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team is desirable, since such research is highly valued in ESM.

A doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant area of science or engineering must be completed by the time of appointment. Interest in developing or interfacing experimental techniques with computational methods and/or analysis within the areas of complex systems, advanced materials, energy, or bio-inspired mechanics is an asset.
