SYMPOSIUM ON

NEW ADVANCES IN THE MODELING AND BEHAVIOR OF
STRUCTURES EXPOSED TO COMPLEX ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

in conjunction with the ASME summer meeting
Engineering Science and mechanics Department
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA

June 27-30, 1999

An increased incorporation of laminated composite structures will characterize the development of structural systems used in the high technology of today and tomorrow.  These structures are likely to be exposed during their operational life to adverse environmental conditions.  The design of the next generation of flight vehicle, helicopter-blades, robot manipulators arms working in space, space stations, etc. operating in complex environmental conditions require a more accurate modeling and a better understanding of the implications of a number of effects and of their response under time-dependent excitations.

The symposium is intended to constitute a forum for presentation and discussion of the developments, achievements and trends in the areas of the linear and non linear modeling and behavior of advanced composite structures in the form of sold and thin-walled beams, as well as of flat and curved plates.

Papers addressing the entire spectrum of these issues, of theoretical and experimental nature related with these problems are solicited.

One-page abstracts typed single-spaced on white 8.5-by-11-inch bond paper with 1.25-inch margins on all four sides are due by January 15, 1999.  The name and affiliations of authors should follow a brief title.

Selected papers are intended to be published in specialized journals.
