elcome to my "virtual office" at Virginia Tech. I work primarily in the area of fluid mechanics, with emphasis on mixing in laminar flows and vortex dynamics. Current studies include topological chaos, mixing in microfluidic systems, and bluff body wakes. My primary focus is theoretical analysis, with computational analysis and experimental flow visualization used as supportive tools.

News Items:

The 3rd annual Fall Fluid Mechanics Symposium had a great turnout and active participation. Plans are already underway for next year!
Congratulations to Professor Baratunde Cola (VU MS 2004) on receiving the DARPA Young Faculty Award for his proposal "Photothermal Enhanced Carbon Nanotube Rectenna Arrays for Solar Energy Conversion"!
ESM students Matthew Bokulic and Tony Nelson have joined my research group.
Congratulations to Bryan Abbamonte, Joseph Callahan, and Kellen Shain for earning their Batchelor of Science degrees in Engineering Mechanics!
Congratulations to Jie Chen for passing his Ph.D. thesis defense!
George Chamoun and Xuemei Chen have joined my research group as postdoctoral research associates. Dr. Chen received her Ph.D. under Prof. Eliot Fried at Washington University in St. Louis, and Dr. Chamoun received his Ph.D. under Prof. Paul Newton at the University of Southern California.
Bryan Abbamonte and Joseph Callahan, senior ESM students, have joined my research group. They actually joined last spring, I'm just really behind on my news!
